Root Canal Treatment
No need to shutter at the thought of a root canal!
Billions of teeth worldwide get saved by root canal therary. Root canal surgery is meant to relieve pain, which everyone can appreciate.
When is a root canal necessary?
Underneath the enamel, your tooth has pulpy and soft matter. Inside this pulp is a collection of nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels. The pulp can get infected in a variety of ways, often caused by a crack, chip in your tooth, or deep decay. When tooth decay is extensive and infringes on the canal space, or, when that “pulp” in your tooth becomes irritated by infection or trauma, it is frequently necessary to remove it from the canal space in the root of your tooth. This space is then disinfected and filled, resulting in a restoration of the natural comfort and function of your tooth!
What to expect in root canal treatment
Root canal treatment at our downtown Edmonton dental clinic is fairly straight forward. During the procedure, your dentist will administer an anesthetic to ensure you are comfortable, which is always top of mind. Dr. VandenBrink will remove the infected tissue, and the space in the tooth will be filled with a colour-matched filling, or, in the case of an extensively damaged tooth, a crown.
