Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging at Glenora Dental Family Dentistry is captured digitally. Instead of developing film in a darkroom, sensors and cameras create electronic images that appear on screen within seconds.

That means your dentist can review findings with you in real time, point to specific areas of concern, and explain what the image shows. There is no waiting for film to develop, and nothing is left to memory or verbal description alone.

Digital images become part of your electronic dental record. At future visits, we can compare current findings with prior images to track changes over time.

Depending on what we are evaluating, your records may include:

• Digital radiographs — Bitewing, periapical, and panoramic x-rays used to see between teeth, around roots, and across the jaws. Learn more on our X-Rays page.
• Clinical photographs — Standardized photos of the teeth, gums, and bite used to document baseline appearance and track soft-tissue or restoration changes.
• Intraoral camera images — Close-up views captured during examination so you can see what your dentist sees. Details are covered on our Intraoral Cameras page.

Imaging is recommended based on clinical need, not a fixed schedule. We follow evidence-based guidelines and explain why a particular image is useful for your care.

Digital radiographic systems use significantly less radiation than older film technology, typically 70–90% less, because modern sensors are more sensitive. Images can be enlarged and adjusted on screen so findings are easier to discuss together.
